Hiking Trails - Bakersfield, CA - Watson Realty

Sometimes we all need a break from screens and technology—a little digital detox, if you will. Luckily, spring is a mighty fine time to go for a hike in the Bakersfield area.

It's the perfect season, offering sunny skies and not-too-hot, not-too-cold weather. Our agents are excited to hit the trail, and we hope to see you out there at some of these scenic Bakersfield hiking spots!

  • Hart Park - Bakersfield, CA 93308
Spanning 370 acres alongside the Kern River, Hart Park is one of Bakersfield's most popular spots to take a break from city life and enjoy the outdoors. The park offers rugged, open terrain and shady groves of trees crisscrossed by a vast network of trails. The 2-mile Hart Park Trail is the most heavily used trail and is popular among joggers and dog walkers. To get a little farther off the beaten path, follow the 6.5-mile trek known as the Hart Park Big Loop. Hart Park is a short drive from many of these Bakersfield homes for sale and also offers two small lakes that are great for fishing.

  • Kern River Parkway - Bakersfield, CA 93302
The Kern River Parkway cuts a 21-mile path right through the heart of Bakersfield. A popular cycling route, the trail is mostly paved and level, offering an easy hike through a wide range of different landscapes. The Kern River Parkway traverses parks, rural landscapes, and nature preserves, as well as residential neighborhoods and historic districts. If you're new to Bakersfield, taking a stroll on the parkway is a great way to get acquainted with the city.

  • Panorama Park - 300 Panorama Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93305
Perhaps Bakersfield's most underappreciated hiking spot, Panorama Park is a long, narrow neighborhood park that offers lush flower gardens, urban art installations, and spectacular views. The park is home to a 1.8-mile trail that meanders along the top of a rugged cliffside known as the Panorama Bluffs. True to their name, the bluffs provide a vantage point where you can enjoy an expansive 360-degree view, including the city skyline, the Bakersfield oil fields, and the lush wildlife rehabilitation area known as Panorama Vista Reserve.

  • Kern Canyon Trail - Keyesville, CA
One of California's great hidden gems, the Kern Canyon Trail is less than an hour from Bakersfield and offers mile after mile of spectacular mountain and high desert landscapes. The Kern Canon Trail begins in Sequoia National Forest and follows the zigs and zags of the Kern River 12.5 miles as it tumbles through a rugged canyon toward Bakersfield. There are some truly spectacular vistas along the way. You can hop on the trail from numerous access points, with the parking area just off CA-178 outside Keyesville being one of the most convenient trailheads close to Bakersfield.

  • Wind Wolves Preserve - 16019 CA-166, Bakersfield, CA 93311
Spanning an incredible 93,000 acres south of Bakersfield, Wind Wolves Preserve offers limitless potential for anyone with a thirst for adventure. The preserve is nestled in a unique spot where several ecosystems meet—The Sierra Nevada and Coastal ranges, the western Mojave Desert, the San Joaquin Valley—and create a dramatic, almost otherworldly landscape. Elevations within the preserve range from 640 to 6,005 feet, and the topography ranges from lush meadows adorned in wildflowers to harsh, windswept mountaintops. Seemingly endless miles of hiking trails allow you to explore it all.
