Cleaning Overlooked Areas - Homeowners - Watson Realty

If your weekly cleaning schedule includes a lot of scrubbing, polishing, and vacuuming, you may be surprised that there are other areas in your home you neglect. These overlooked areas get dirtier with time as they accumulate dust, pet dander, and even mold. Thankfully, our agents have listed five things that homeowners neglect the most.

  1. Throw Pillows
Throw pillows decorate beds and couches, add comfort, and even help to make living room forts. However, they also accumulate a lot of dirt, especially if you place snacks on them during movie nights.

Recycling Opportunities for Homeowners - Watson Realty

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. It's a tagline we've all heard and try to live by. But, it's often easy to overlook simple household recycling opportunities. Since America Recycles Day is coming up on November 15th, our agents decided to gather some of their favorite recycling tips.

  • Know Your Local Recycling Rules
If you've been looking at Bakersfield homes for sale, you'll want to get familiar with the local recycling rules and pick-up schedule. You can use your blue recycling bin to recycle things like cardboard, all types of mail, newspapers, and magazines as well steel and aluminum cans, green, brown, and clear glass, and plastic containers with the numbers 1 through 7 on them. To make sure you don't ruin the rest of the recyclables, you should keep garbage, plastic wrap, styrofoam, computer parts, and other prohibited items out of the recycling bin.

Pest-Proofing Tips for Homeowners - Watson Realty

When people move into a new home, they usually look forward to inviting their friends and family to show off their new place. But one thing they don't look forward to is uninvited guests invading their personal space. Our agents have assembled a few tips to keep your home safe from wildlife intrusions.

  • Lock them out
Unwanted creatures seek fortuitous opportunities such as cracks and holes in the walls. It's amazing how small a gap along the roof can accommodate a rodent, much fewer insects and spiders. Inspect the house regularly to locate cracks and gaps around doors, windows, conduits, and vents. Seal them with caulking to block pests, stuffing larger spaces with steel wool before applying sealant. Install or replace old door sweeps to eliminate their most common pathways.

Bathroom Decluttering - Sell a Home - Watson Realty

Bathrooms are essential spaces for health and hygiene, but it can be difficult to keep them clean and organized with daily use. When our agents show new listings, buyers often see bathrooms overflowing with hair and skincare products, cosmetics, toiletries, and cleaners. Although these may be essential items for the homeowner, the only thing buyers see is clutter.

Buyers looking for Bakersfield homes for sale want to see clean, organized rooms that reflect a comfortable, inviting home. If you're thinking about selling your home, it may be time to declutter your bathroom and show potential buyers a tidy, organized space with a relaxing vibe.

  • Organize the Linen Closet
While some linen closets are in the bathroom, others may be in a nearby hallway or bedroom. Either way, you can be assured that buyers will open them to inspect the storage space. Before they do, take the time to organize your blankets, quilts, throws, bed linens, towels and washcloths, and any other items you store in your linen closet. For a fresh, inviting smell, hang potpourri on small closet hooks.
