- Versatile bookshelves

With a little bit of paint and a few hours of work, your shelving will look like the elegant architectural feature you wanted. You can put small bookcases on top of refurbished cabinets painted to match to add a place to stash items not meant for display. It's always a good idea to anchor the shelves to the wall so they don't tip with excessive weight.

- Know Your Local Recycling Rules
